A beautiful haven in the heart of Diocletian palace
These beautifully restored split-level apartments are situated in the very heart of the Diocletian's palace.The house that they are in was built in the 16th century.As many of the houses that were built within the palace walls throughout the centuries, it blends perfectly with its surroundings.
We started with the restauration projekt in 2007. The house was in a state of disrepair , and we worked with the conservation society to ensure the restauration was done in sympathetic and appropriate way. The gol was to preserve as many original features as possible and to really capture the essence of what Mediterranean life was like in the palace.
Original walls wererestored and kept exposed,as they provide a beautifully solid frame to the house.The other main material used was locally sourced oak, which was expertly crafted by builders. Stairs,beds,side tables and storage units are all bespoke pieces, designed and made by local carpenters. Everything was carefully designed and selected to complement the house, using as many natural materials as possible.
