Our apartments are located in the very centre of Split, in the north-west quarters of Diocletian's Palace.The "palace" was built at the turn of 4th century AD as Diocletian's retirement home. It was actually a fortress rather than just a classic palace,with emperor's living quarters facing the sea and military quarters at the back.It's been continuosly occupied ever since and it is an incredible piece of living history, of which everyone in Split is very proud of.
We are on Dominisova street (ulica-hr.), which was known to have housed many of the city's traders and craftsmen. House like ours had workshops or warehouses on the ground floor, and rooms above them. most houses on the street date back to 16th century. They were often built using Materials found in and around the palace, a brilliant example of reusing and recycling local Materials! And even though streets are very narrow, and houses are close to each other, you will find that each apartment still feels very private.
